Frequently Asked Questions

Required admission application materials:

  1. Apply Online to the graduate school application for admission. Upload supporting documents (listed below) to this system prior to paying the fee and finalizing the application. Applications open August 1, 2018.
  2. Complete the ELPA- EdD Program Application embedded in the graduate school application for admission
  3. Enter contact information for three references into the online graduate application for admission - Three recommendations should come from individuals who are able to comment on your qualifications for graduate study. Recommendations should come from faculty who have taught and/or advised you, although one may come from an administrator who has supervised you. Each reference will complete the process online. Please be courteous and give your references a reasonable amount of time to complete and submit your recommendations.
  4. Supporting Documentation the online graduate application for admission. 
    1. Current Resumé to the Supplemental Information page.
    2. Unofficial transcripts to the Education History page. If accepted into the program, students must request official transcripts to be sent to the MU Graduate School, 210 Jesse Hall, Columbia, MO 65211 ~ please do not request official transcripts until after you have received an offer of admission from ELPA. 
    3. Official GRE - add scores to the Test Information page. The DEADLINE to take the test is the same date as the application deadline, December 1, even years. If your results from a previously taken GRE are available at ETS, request that they be sent to MU. If your scores are no longer available, upload your official GRE Exam results from past years. Applicants taking the exam or requesting results, should identify the University of Missouri using code 6875 (Institution), or, code 3003 (Educational Leadership).
    4. Official TOEFL (if applicable - international students only) - Identify the University of Missouri with code 6875, or, code 3003 (Educational Leadership).
  5. Interviews and writing assessments

    Candidates who are selected during initial screening are invited to the MU campus to participate in an on-campus interview, a problem-solving activity, and a writing assessment.

Minimum acceptance requirements:

  • GPA of 3.0 (4.0 scale) in the last 60 hours of undergraduate education
  • GPA of 3.5 (4.0 scale) in Graduate School (Master's Degree)
  • A competitive Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score
  • Evidence of consistency between candidates and the program's goals
  • Relevant organizational or educational leadership experience

  • Mid-February, 2019 — Applicants who have passed the initial review process will receive an invitation to participate in the on-campus portion.
  • March 4, 2019 — Interview Day on the MU Campus
  • April 27, 2019 — Cohort 12 Orientation
  • April – June 2019 — Summer 1 Pre-Work
  • July 2019 — Summer 1 Coursework
  • July 24, 2019 —  EdD Summer Gala and Presentation of the Dan H. Cockrell Dissertation of the Year Award
  • October 15, 2020 — Application Deadline Cohort 13
